Symphyotrichum novae-angliae. Possibly the showiest aster. Abundant purple flowers reach 4-5 feet tall. Blooms Sept - Oct, and prefers medium to medium-wet soil and full to partial sun. A few records in the Arrowhead along Lake Superior but largely south and west of the Mississippi.
